A delegation from City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), led by its Pro-Chancellor Dr Chung Shui-ming and Chairman of the Council Mr Michael Ngai, visited City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) on 11 February 2025.

The delegation leaned about CityUHK (DG)’s infrastructure, operations, academic development and long-term plans, praising the campus’s “Consistency in Academic Excellence” with CityUHK.

Approved by China’s Ministry of Education in April 2024 and officially launched that September, CityUHK (DG) stands as a flagship higher education collaboration within the Greater Bay Area. The university mirrors CityUHK’s ethos to uphold “Integration of Teaching and Research, Consistency in Academic Excellence, and Innovating into the Future”.

Professor Julie Li, Associate Vice-President of CityUHK and Vice President of CityUHK (DG), emphasised that CityUHK (DG) follows CityUHK’s degree awarding standards and adopts its Quality Manual to ensure academic excellence. Students of the two universities benefit from exchange opportunities and joint research initiatives aimed at cultivating globally competitive innovators.

Dr Chung Shui-ming commended CityUHK (DG)’s remarkable progress in a short timeframe, highlighting satisfaction among staff and students with academic rigour. He added that more collaborations would unlock greater potential across both campuses towards a bright future.

Mr Michael Ngai said CityUHK would fully support CityUHK (DG)’s development, stressing that the two campuses are one family which can leverage mutual strengths for shared success.

The delegation toured facilities including the International Exchange Centre, lodge, sports complexes and student dormitories, applauding the campus’s modern, international design.

Visits to the Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory and China Spallation Neutron Source underscored CityUHK (DG)’s strategic integration with Dongguan’s science corridor. Recent partnerships with over 20 research institutes and enterprises aimed to accelerate innovation while expanding student internships and career pathways.
