The faculty's excellence in Teaching & Research Integration has been repeatedly recognized, establishing a distinguished reputation in professional education and research both in Hong Kong and globally. To promote interdisciplinary research, CityU has established the Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study, twenty-three research institutes/centers (including two university-level research institutes: Hong Kong Institute for Data Science (HKIDS) and Hong Kong Institute for Clean Energy (HKICE)), ten Applied Strategic Development Centers covering various strategically important areas, and three mainland research institutes (Shenzhen Research Institute, Futian Research Institute, and Chengdu Research Institute). Additionally, with approval from the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, CityU has established two State Key Laboratories (State Key Laboratory of Terahertz and Millimeter Waves (City University of Hong Kong) (SKLTMW) and State Key Laboratory of Marine Pollution (City University of Hong Kong) (SKLMP)), as well as one Chinese National Engineering Research Center (Hong Kong Branch of National Precious Metals Material Engineering Research Center (NPMM)). These research platforms encompass multiple areas of strategic significance and aim to strengthen academic collaboration, facilitate technology transfer, and expand cooperative initiatives to the mainland market. Four Cutting-Edge Interdisciplinary Themes of CityU (DG) Based on CityU's research strengths and in alignment with the nation's emerging fields, key industries, and Dongguan's strategic emerging industry clusters, CityU (DG) encompasses the following four cutting-edge interdisciplinary themes. Research is conducted in an open and collaborative manner, sharing outcomes with the aim of making a positive global impact and responding to various academic and social issues and challenges in today's interconnected world. One Health Promoting the common health of humans, animals, and the environment. Life Sciences & Biotechnology Advancing disease prevention and treatment for improving human health. Smart City Advocating for sustainable economic development, high-quality living, and harmonious coexistence of built environments with nature. Four Research Centers of CityU (DG) In its initial stages in 2020, CityU (DG) actively introduced CityU's advantageous research projects, initiating research in key areas such as advanced materials, the Internet of Things, computer technology and information technology, and neutron scattering applied physics. The four research centers established in the initial phase are equipped with world-class laboratory facilities, instrumentations, and related technical support to facilitate the progress of scientific research. As of August 2023, the university has established one campus-level public equipment platform with 13 sets of equipment. This platform was opened for trial operation to internal and external units in February 2022.
