They were warmly welcomed by Professor Julie Li Juan, Associate Vice-President (Mainland Strategy) of CityU and Vice President (Academic) of CityU (DG), and Mr Zhao Yi, Party Branch Secretary of CityU (DG). The delegation consisted of CityU representatives, CityU Foundation Board of Governors, Convenor of the Steering Committee of the CityU Industrial and Business Leaders Circle cum Chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries, Mr Steve Chuang, and other representatives. They visited the expert quarters, student residences and outdoor sports yard in the phase one campus of CityU (DG). President Boey pointed out that phase one campus is located in Dongguan Songshan Lake High-Tech Industrial Development Zone (Science City), which has unique geographical advantages. He also commended the campus for its strongly international ambience and said that he looked forward to the future development of CityU (DG). “This area will serve as a pioneering, comprehensive national science centre, fostering a vibrant scientific research atmosphere, as well as innovation and entrepreneurship,” said Professor Boey. “I firmly believe that CityU (DG) will emerge as an important hub for industry-university research, offering students an enriching and inspiring learning experience.” “CityU (DG) is a perfect combination of research achievements in Hong Kong and practical applications in Dongguan,” said Mr Chuang. In a meeting held later in the Academic Building, Professor Li extended thanks to the delegation for visiting the campus and presented in detail the preparation and establishment process, the design concept of the campus, and the future development plans for CityU (DG). She said that the core connection between CityU (DG)and CityU involved ensuring the same education quality and that both institutions would work closely together and complement each other by coordinating academic planning, student exchanges, and research and knowledge transfer.
