Students will receive innovative and in-depth education through course studies, projects, or thesis completion. They are required to complete the prescribed credits for the respective courses in order to earn a degree. Starting from 2024, the Master's program can be pursued either on a full-time or part-time basis, with a standard duration of two years. Upon meeting graduation requirements, students are eligible to apply for early graduation. Program List MSc in Computer Science Introduction The program aims to (1) enable computer professionals to strengthen and upgrade their technical capabilities in computer software development, (2) broaden students’ knowledge and deepen their understanding of key issues of specific areas in computer science, including artificial intelligence, data science, information security, multimedia, and other related contemporary technologies, and (3) prepare graduates to take up research and advanced innovative development work in the industry or pursue higher research studies. Upon successful completion of this program, students should be able to: Apply tools and techniques in the development of computer systems and propose solutions; Apply computer network, software and data engineering concepts and technologies, as well as domain-specific tools and techniques, in the design of quality computer software; Work effectively as member of a team in the development of computer software systems; Delineate key issues of specific areas in computer science and develop potential solutions for tackling problems in these areas. MSc in Electronic Information Engineering Introduction The MSc programme aims to provide an enhancement of specialist technical knowledge in strategically selected areas, such as RF and Microwaves Circuits and Applied Electromagnetics, Wireless Communications, Networking and Data Communications and Optical Communications that are relevant to the current and anticipated future needs from industry. Due to the rapid advances of existing technologies, the programme is designed for practicing engineers who want to upgrade and update their knowledge in this field. The programme offers a good selection of business management electives, preparing engineers with knowledge on top of their technical fronts to take up managerial positions in their engineering career. The programme also offers Industrial or Research Internship experience via the Applied Research Internship Scheme preparing students for full employment immediately after their research internships, or for further studies as PhD candidates in their related technology areas either locally or in overseas countries. Programme Intended Learning Outcomes: With the global trend towards the adoption of the outcomes based approach to education, City University of Hong Kong embarked on the Outcomes-based Teaching and Learning (OBTL) project to signify its determination to continue to enhance the education experience for its students. All taught postgraduate programmes and courses of EE have adopted this outcomes based approach since 2009, with some of them in pilot runs in earlier years. Sets of intended learning outcomes on both course level and programme level have been developed. Course Intended Learning Outcomes (CILOs) of individual courses and their constructive alignment with programme outcomes can be found in respective course syllabuses while Programme Intended Learning Outcomes (PILOs) are listed below for students' reference: Describe current and anticipated trends in the selected areas including Wireless Communications, Networking and Information Engineering, Optical Communications and RF and Microwave Circuits and Applied Electromagnetics. MSc in Materials Engineering and Nanotechnology Introduction Materials Engineering and Nanotechnology is an emerging interdisciplinary field that combines traditional fundamental sciences with engineering and other disciplines. It is a vibrant and dynamic field playing an irreplaceable role in both national economic development and the forefront of scientific research. This program aims to cultivate advanced talents who possess relevant professional knowledge and skills. Graduates will be able to apply foundational theories, specialized knowledge, and experimental skills in materials science to conduct research, teach, develop technology, and manage related projects in the fields of materials engineering and nanotechnology. Graduates of this program will have a solid theoretical foundation and systematic professional knowledge in this discipline. They will possess self-learning capabilities, understand the current state and development trends of the field, and have the ability to engage in related scientific research or independently undertake specialized technical work. They will become high-level technical talents who can adapt to technological progress and social development in the field of materials science and engineering. After graduation, they will be able to independently carry out materials science-related technical and research work in enterprises, institutions, universities, and research institutes. They will be competent in teaching, scientific research, product development, and technical management in the field of materials science. For specific application scenarios, they will be able to comprehensively consider multiple factors such as economic effects, functional requirements, environmental factors, manufacturability, and reliability, and select the most suitable materials with a thorough understanding. They will be capable of analyzing the decisive factors in the failure of engineering components and providing rational countermeasures for potential future risks. Additionally, they will master the skills required for designing and preparing new structures, innovative functions, and high-performance nanostructured materials. MSc in Engineering Management Introduction This program aims to equip students with analytical, managerial, and behavioural skills / knowledge in aspect of contemporary engineering management in order to prepare them to meet the educational needs of engineers transiting into practising engineering managers. Program Intended Learning Outcomes: reflect on extensive knowledge in engineering management in supporting problem solving, decision making and undertaking projects of discovery and innovation; apply managerial skills, including, behavioural and communication skills, needed in the effective transition from the role of an engineer to that of an engineering manager; integrate and apply engineering and managerial knowledge in the management of engineering projects, operations, products and services in engineering/manufacturing enterprises and departments; be able to generate innovative ideas, to undertake engineering management projects/research and turn the discovery & innovative ideas into practical implementation; reflect on responsibility and sensitivity for environmental and societal concerns, inter-cultural issues and global development. MSc in Business Information Systems Introduction The program contains two streams. The Management Information Systems (MIS) Stream aims to train students in the core domains of business and cutting-edge information systems that underpin the contemporary information society, so that graduates can excel in careers with professional positions that require both advanced business knowledge and IT-enabled problem solving skills. The MIS Stream is offered to applicants with a non-IT background and focuses on developing their competence in evaluating cutting-edge IT, coordinating IT-enabled business initiatives, and managing the operation of business information systems, so as to meet the business needs of the organization. The Financial and Intelligent Technology (FIT) Stream aims to train students in the domains of intelligent business technology, of which financial technology is the most well-known and representative application. Financial and intelligent technology hold the potential to revolutionize traditional business operations and lead to more innovative products, solutions, and processes, which creates value for business and society. The FIT Stream is offered to applicants with an intermediate IT/IS or Finance/Accounting knowledge (such as completion of fundamental-related courses at the undergraduate level or with certain working experience); and aims to complement each student’s skills to a complete set to face challenges in financial and intelligent technology applications. The FIT Stream focuses on developing their capability to integrate intelligent technology with business domain knowledge. By doing so, graduates can excel in careers in managerial, technical, or innovative architect positions in their specialized business domains, such as in finance industry. It is also intended to help data analytic professionals upgrade their technical management and development skills, and to provide a solid path for students from related quantitative fields to rapidly transition to data science careers. Program Intended Learning Outcomes: Apply knowledge of science and engineering appropriate to the data science discipline Understand theoretical foundation of contemporary techniques and apply them for managing, mining and analyzing data across multiple disciplines Comprehend computational tools and use data-driven thinking to discover new knowledge and to solve real-world problems with complex structures Recognize the need for and engage in continuous learning about emerging and innovative data science techniques and ideas Communicate ideas and findings in written, oral and visual forms and work in a diverse team environment Entrance Requirement 1. General Entrance Requirements Applicants for postgraduate certificates, postgraduate diplomas, or taught master's programs at City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) must meet the university's basic admission requirements: Hold a recognized bachelor's degree conferred by a mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, or overseas university. Alternatively, hold an equivalent qualification recognized by the university. Note: Fresh graduates who are able to obtain the required academic qualification before the start of the semester may also submit an application. 2. English Proficiency Requirements Applicants who graduated from non-English medium universities must meet the following minimum English proficiency requirements: CET6 (College English Test Band 6): 425 points/pass; TOEFL: 550 (paper-based)/79 (internet-based), or TOEFL iBT revised paper-delivered test: 60 (total score for reading, listening, and writing sections); IELTS (Academic): Overall band score of 6.5; or equivalent test scores in other recognized English language proficiency exams. Note: Only scores from a single attempt are considered. Home-based testing options are not accepted. For applicants whose first language is English, or who have obtained a bachelor's degree (or equivalent qualification) from an institution where the medium of instruction is English, there is no need to provide English proficiency scores. TOEFL and IELTS scores are valid for 2 years. Applicants must submit English test scores, which are considered valid if obtained within 2 years prior to the university's application start date. Individual faculties and programs may have higher English proficiency requirements or accept other equivalent qualifications based on the nature of the discipline. 3. Mode of Study & Fees Tuition Fees: Data Science: 140,000 RMB per student per academic year Other majors: 110,000 RMB per student per academic year Duration of Study: 2 years. Upon meeting graduation requirements, students may apply for early graduation. The maximum duration of study is 5 years. Modes of Study: Full-time or part-time options are available. Accommodation Fees: 4-bed room (shared by 2): 1,200 RMB per student per academic year 2-bed room (single occupancy): 2,400 RMB per student per academic year Application Fee: 150 RMB per student Notes: The above fee structure applies to both Chinese and international students. A first installment of 3,300 RMB will be charged for postgraduate students, which can be deducted from the annual tuition fees. Scholarship Policy Article 3: Types and Renewal of Scholarships: School scholarship: RMB 180,000 per academic year First scholarship: RMB 120,000 per academic year Excellence Scholarship: RMB 60,000 per academic year To ensure that our master's students maintain academic excellence, students who achieve a GPA (Grade Point Average) of 3.3 out of 4.3 or higher at the end of their first academic year will be eligible for full renewal of their scholarships. If a student's GPA falls below 3.3 in the first academic year, they will lose their eligibility for scholarship renewal.
