Research Research 面包屑 Home / Research Research Network of CityU CityU is committed to creating an international environment for professional education and actively conducts research that benefits society. The faculty's excellence in Teaching & Research Integration has been repeatedly recognized, establishing a distinguished reputation in professional education and research both in Hong Kong and globally. To promote interdisciplinary research, CityU has established the Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study, twenty-three research institutes/centers (including two university-level research institutes: Hong Kong Institute for Data Science (HKIDS) and Hong Kong Institute for Clean Energy (HKICE)), ten Applied Strategic Development Centers covering various strategically important areas, and three mainland research institutes (Shenzhen Research Institute, Futian Research Institute, and Chengdu Research Institute). Additionally, with approval from the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, CityU has established two State Key Laboratories (State Key Laboratory of Terahertz and Millimeter Waves (City University of Hong Kong) (SKLTMW) and State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Health (City University of Hong Kong) (SKLMP)), as well as one Chinese National Engineering Research Center (Hong Kong Branch of National Precious Metals Material Engineering Research Center (NPMM)). These research platforms encompass multiple areas of strategic significance and aim to strengthen academic collaboration, facilitate technology transfer, and expand cooperative initiatives to the mainland market. Four Cutting-Edge Interdisciplinary Themes of CityU (DG) Based on CityU's research strengths and in alignment with the nation's emerging fields, key industries, and Dongguan's strategic emerging industry clusters, CityU (DG) encompasses the following four cutting-edge interdisciplinary themes. Research is conducted in an open and collaborative manner, sharing outcomes with the aim of making a positive global impact and responding to various academic and social issues and challenges in today's interconnected world. One Health Promoting the common health of humans, animals, and the environment. New Materials & New Energy Driving efficiency and effectiveness enhancements for environmental protection and sustainable development. Life Sciences & Biotechnology Advancing disease prevention and treatment for improving human health. Smart City Advocating for sustainable economic development, high-quality living, and harmonious coexistence of built environments with nature. Research and Innovation Platforms of CityUHK (DG) GDST, CityUHK and CityUHK (Dongguan) sign Work Plan to deepen tech development bond To deepen Guangdong-Hong Kong sci-tech collaboration, the Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology (GDST), City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) and City University of Hong Kong (DG) , hereinafter referred to as “(CityUHK (DG)”,pooled their efforts in August 2025 and signed the Work Plan to Jointly Support the Deepening of Collaboration in Science & Technology. The GDST supports and drives the synergy between the two universities in research breakthrough, platform construction, international exchanges, talent cultivation and other fields. By pooling the advantageous resources of Guangdong and Hong Kong, the three parties have formed a seed funding pool through a joint funding scheme, with a focus on supporting major research projects that align with the development needs of the Greater Bay Area (GBA). The initiative is set to foster a batch of original scientific and technological achievements with global influence, promote the in-depth integration of science, technology and industry, and jointly open a new chapter in serving the innovation-driven development of the GBA. CityUHK (DG) Technology and Innovation Centre Unveiling Ceremony of CityUHK (DG) Technology and Innovation centre The 2nd Award Ceremony and 3rd Launch Ceremony of HK Tech 300 National Start-up Competition CityUHK (DG) collaborates with units such as Dongguan Science and Technology Bureau and Dongguan Industrial Investment Holding Group to jointly establish the CityUHK (DG) Technology and Innovation Centre. It is committed to integrating relevant scientific and technological achievements with industries, capital, policies, etc., actively serving the development of strategic emerging industries and future industries in Dongguan. This will effectively undertake the project resources of the HK Tech 300 programme, creating a technology and innovation incubation platform integrating Start-up competition hosting, proof of concept, and project incubation for Dongguan and Hong Kong. Dongguan Key Laboratory of Computational Intelligence and SecurityConstruction Objectives: Facilitate Dongguan to develop a healthy development model of "Trusted Artificial Intelligence + Innovative Industrial Applications", especially to achieve significant breakthroughs in cutting - edge research topics such as Artificial Intelligence + Healthcare, Artificial Intelligence + Chips (Materials), Artificial Intelligence + Bioinformatics, and Artificial Intelligence Security.Research Fields:AI in Healthcare: Focus on the development of intelligent diagnosis, medical image analysis, and personalized treatment plans.AI in Bioinformatics: Devote to the research of genomic data analysis and protein structure prediction.AI Chips (Materials): Conduct research on intelligent chip design, low - power chip architecture, as well as material characterization and analysis.AI Security: Carry out cutting - edge research to break through key technologies in areas such as post - quantum - resistant cryptographic systems, big data security and privacy protection, system and network security, blockchain security, artificial intelligence security, and privacy computing. The aim is to solve the core issues of data security and privacy protection in the new era of information technology development.External Technical Services and Support:In combination with local leading enterprises in electronics and information, life sciences, new materials, etc., as well as industrial parks, we focus on the development of AI in healthcare, AI in bioinformatics, AI chips, and AI security technologies.
